Act 2

God Save America From Him/Them/Us

November 6, 2018

Donald Trump’s Impeachment Trial in the Senate concludes

First Adam Schiff, then other House managers approach the microphone

Mr. Chief Justice and Senators, esteemed colleagues from the other side

I open my closing remarks with: What the Hell are you trying to hide?

We all know that he’s guilty, even you doing his bidding

But we have to have witnesses, who are you kidding?

The facts are indisputed, our case it has been proven,

The only question now, will you vote to remove him?

It will take an act of courage, you’ll have to go out on a limb –

    God save America from him.

God save America from him, God save America from him,

We ask you search your souls, don’t do just what you’re told

And God save America from him.

First Pat Cipollone, then other lawyers approach the microphone

Mr. Chief Justice and Senators, House managers and the press,

The President is an honorable man, we all here can confess.

Even if he did what he didn’t do, it wouldn’t be a crime

So let’s wrap this show up quickly and stop wasting our time.

It might not have been a perfect, innocent call,

But if it helps his re-election, then there’s nothing wrong at all.

The real crime as we see it, is in the House where this all stemmed –

God save America from them.

God save America from them, God save America from them,

It didn’t meet impeachment’s bar, it’s gone way too far,

And God save America from them.

First Mitt Romney, then other Republicans, then Democrats speak

I’m a deeply religious man, faith’s at the heart of who I am

I can’t ignore my solemn oath and not condemn this man.

R: We all know that he’s guilty, but we’re not walking down that path

We’ll express our displeasure, but don’t want his wrath.

D: A single voice of conscious, is there no shame among the rest of you,

Left unchecked and unpunished, there’s no telling what he might do.

D: Monster! – R: Hero! – R: Martyr! – D: Nero!

Both: God save America from D: him / R: them

God save America from him/them, God save America from him/them,

D: We ask you search your souls, don’t do just what you’re told

R: It didn’t meet impeachment’s bar, it’s gone way too far,

And God save America from him/them.

Chief Justice Roberts stands up and speaks while music plays in the background

Senators, how say you? Is the respondent, Donald John Trump, guilty or not guilty? The

clerk will call the role. The clerk will call the role.

Senators file by the microphone and vote Guilty/Not Guilty

Two thirds of the senators present not having pronounced him guilty, the Senate

adjudges that respondent Donald John Trump, president of the United States, is not

guilty as charged.

God save America from him/them, God save America from him/them,

D: We asked you search your souls, don’t do just what you’re told

R: It didn’t meet impeachment’s bar, it’s gone way too far,

And God save America from…

All assembled look around at each other and understand: Us!
